Description
When drilling near existing wellbores, casing, or ferrous materials, magnetic sensors in traditional MWD tools experience interference, leading to inaccurate measurements.
The Gyro MWD combines gyroscopic technology (immune to magnetic fields) with real-time MWD capabilities, ensuring accurate wellbore surveying in magnetically challenging environments.
Key Advantages: Unaffected by magnetic interference, superior accuracy in close-proximity drilling, reliable performance regardless of magnetic anomalies, consistent measurements in areas with high magnetic declination.
Applications
- Kick-off, sidetrack and whipstocks.
- Unconventional Drilling.
- Coal bed methane/coal seam gas.
- Mining/degasification.
- Casing While Drilling.
Gyroscopic Advantages
- Magnetic Immunity: Unaffected by magnetic interference from casing, nearby wells, or geological formations.
- True North Reference: Gyroscopic sensors provide absolute azimuth without magnetic declination corrections.
- Close-Proximity Drilling: Accurate directional control when drilling within 15 feet of existing wellbores.
- Superior Accuracy: ±0.5arcsec azimuth accuracy regardless of magnetic environment conditions.
MWD Integration Features
- Real-Time Surveying: Continuous directional measurements while drilling without survey stops.
- MEMS Gyro Technology: Solid-state three-axis gyroscopes with no moving parts.
- Memory Recording: Continuous 1GB data logging with backup survey data for quality assurance.
- Fast Data Transmission: Complete gyro survey transmitted to surface in ≤1 minute via mud pulse.
- Temperature Resilient: Maintains accuracy from -20°C to +125°C with automatic drift compensation.
