The most common deviation tools for directional drilling are steerable motor assemblies (or so-called positive-displacement motors [PDMs]) and rotary steerable systems (RSSs). Adjustable-gauge stabilizers, known as “2D rotary systems,” have become quite popular to run with the rotary and PDM assemblies to control inclination.
